I happened upon this book at the public library a couple days before a big interview this summer. Although I’d been researching articles on the web about interviewing skills during my job search process, I was somewhat caught off guard by the call to come in to interview with a couple days’ notice. This book was a big help. It not only helped me figure out which questions to ask as well as which questions to anticipate, it answered questions concerning recent changes in etiquette related to interviews. For example, the day before my big interview I attended a local business professionals networking event where a panel of MBA advisors and consultants talked about the impact of multiple technologies on the job search process. I asked them, “What’s the appropriate way to send a thank you note after an interview? By email, a handwritten note, etc?” Their answer was the same as was in this book: email your thank you note and also mail a hardcopy within 24 hours of the interview. I am thankful to both the panel and this book for helping me make a good impression before, during, and after the interview. And I’m happy to say, I got the job.

I was lucky enough to pick this book up before I interviewed for my current job and I am so glad that I did. The book is easy to read and presents great ideas. There are work-book type pages that force you to really think about all your strengths and helps you sum them up in creative ways. After reading this book I really felt confident about the whole interview process as well. Even if you are not preparing for a “next-day job interview” this book is a must have for anybody considering a career change. Once you use the book to write out all your strengths, job experiences, etc. the next time you have an interview you need only skim the book for 20-30 minutes and you are completely prepared. If you want to have an edge on the competition, wow your interviewers, and get the job, buy this little book now. You won’t regret it, I promise.
